Isn’t it funny that if you suggest to your best friend that they should be in control of their own brain, they look at you like you’re crazy?
Like you just said something radical.
But here’s the reality:
Most people are already letting everyone else control their brain.
The person who cut them off this morning controls their brain.
The comment they read controls their brain.
The last thing they saw on social media controls their brain.
And they don’t even question it.
They’ll let Facebook decide what they think about.
They’ll let Instagram decide what they compare themselves to.
They’ll let Twitter decide what they get angry about.
They’ll let anyone control their brain.
But suggest they take control themselves…
Now that’s “crazy.”
That’s the hypocrisy.
Think about what your brain is actually doing all day.
Your eyes alone are taking in an enormous amount of information. From my background in graphic arts, I can tell you a single image contains an incredible level of detail. A video? Exponentially more.
Now multiply that by every second of your life.
Your brain is constantly being fed information.
And a lot of that information is not neutral.
It’s designed to provoke.
Fear.
Anger.
Outrage.
Comparison.
Because those are the emotions that keep you engaged.
Then people wonder why they feel anxious.
Why they feel overwhelmed.
Why they feel mentally exhausted.
They’re feeding their brain garbage all day and expecting clarity.
Don’t forget the Serenity Prayer:
Give me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Most people invert that.
They obsess over things they cannot change.
Politics.
Global events.
Other people’s behavior.
And they spend hours thinking, talking, and arguing about things they have zero control over.
Meanwhile, the one thing they can control—
What they allow into their brain—
They ignore.
You can’t even look at a simple photo online anymore without being interrupted.
You go to see a picture of your granddaughter.
You get ads.
You get headlines.
You get opinions.
You get pulled somewhere else.
The system is not passive.
It’s feeding you.
Constantly.
And if you don’t decide what goes into your brain…
Someone else will.
So here’s the point.
Take control of your own brain.
Decide what you consume.
Decide what deserves your attention.
Decide what you allow to influence your thoughts, your mood, and your direction.
Because if you don’t—
You’re not neutral.
You’re being programmed.
My thoughts—broken down so they land.
