Gym Closed ? Try Emsculpt

How many trips to the gym does it take you to get 20,000 crunches ? Even if you did 1000 crunches each time, thats 20 trips. How about 1 trip to a doctor’s office ? Obviously a doctor’s office is going to be a lot “cleaner” in fact they are now sanitized in between every patient. Personally once i got rid of toe nail fungus and athlete’s foot I stopped showering at the gym. They always were the place with the most germs, bacteria, fungus and viruses. Open or closed go find a local Emsculpt provider. It is so popular now you can probably get a great discount. Bonus if you can find one that has Exilis, and Emtone too, you can melt a little fat and get rid of some cellulite and tighten you skin as well. In New York ? Try Precision Aesthetics. Truth be told I am part of it. But I can tell you that when we built it in 2007, we put split duct AC in every room for luxury. Turns out its what is best for fresh air and safety. We used fresh linens for each patient for luxury. Turns out they are medically sanitized also perfect for today. You dont want to lay on the same surface as a person before you. Some non self serving information, the consumables for Emsculpt are very low and the prices are very competitive. So no matter where you live try to negotiate a great price. However some info self serving or not, you might not need Emsculpt. Emculpt makes muscles. Four treatments will add around 16% muscle with a loss of 19% fat. However do you really want to add muscle or bulk to that area ? Great if you are already thin. But many women simply want to lose fat. In that case make sure your provider has Exilis. Its a device made by the same people who make Emsculpt that merely shrinks fat. And in most cases Exilis is cheaper than Emsculpt. As I always say find a provider who has multiple technologies. There is no reason for that provider to try to sell you the “wrong” one. Many new places started calling themselves “cosmetic providers” with only an Emsculpt machine. So of course if thats all they have they will try to sell that even if its not the right treatment for you. Let me give you an example of a provider that you can feel comfortable with. At Precision Aesthetics we offer Thermage for loose skin, Exilis for body shaping or fat reduction, Acoustic wave for simple cellulite reduction, Emtone for skin tightening and Cellulite reduction, Carboxytherapy for stretch marks. A provider with a half dozen options has no reason to try to sell you the wrong technology. Its a great time to take care of yourself and get your precovid body back.

Vitamin D and Covid

I thought this was going to be the easiest thing to do. Well even on PUBMED which only has peer reviewed published medical research there are over 85,000 articles on vitamin D, 22,000 articles on vitamin D deficiency, and 828 articles on vitamin D and covid. After 2 hours of reading, I think I found one that encapsulates a lot and gives some basic advice which is what my goal is. Its a review of the preliminary research as it applies to Covid which is top of mind for now. I can put up other summaries on other diseases in the future. But let me start with the conclusion first, and I’ll put the whole article here ( at the risk of getting sued) for those who like to read it for themselves.

Actually my summary of the conclusion so you dont even have to read it. It recommends taking 2000 IU of vitamin D a day. Its a summary of 141 articles and 47 studies.

“CONCLUSION
The 141 articles (Table A1) presenting primarily biological
plausibility evidence overwhelmingly support the assertions that
vitamin D sufficiency increases resistance to viral infections and
helps prevent every symptom of severe COVID-19 that results in
fatalities. They show that vitamin D deficiency can also explain
every major risk factor, including the mystery of why children
seem relatively protected and why males, the elderly, and people
with naturally melanin-rich skin are especially vulnerable.
The 47 studies (Table A2) summarized here demonstrate that
vitamin D deficiency explains the geographical differences in
COVID-19 case and fatality rates. They provide overwhelming
correlational evidence for the hypothesis, and causal evidence
as well. COVID-19 mortality was predicted by vitamin D in 16
studies (4, 14, 24, 27, 63, 122, 127, 146, 150, 182, 197, 206, 209–
211, 219) and vitamin D levels or sunlight predicted contracting
COVID-19 in 17 (34, 122, 124, 150, 197, 198, 200, 201, 204,
205, 207–209, 211, 216, 221, 222). Both causal modeling studies
and eight chart reviews demonstrated that lower 25(OH)D was
linearly associated with more severe COVID-19 outcomes (3–5,
63, 157, 211, 215, 217, 219, 221).
None of the four objections to recommending universal
vitamin D supplements are supported by the evidence. The
exhaustive literature search found no vitamin D proponent who
suggested that COVID-19 could be completely eliminated with
supplementation. Rather than overstating the case, they present
compelling evidence that vitamin D deficiency is one factor
which increases risk for COVID-19 infection and progression.
Although overdoses are theoretically possible, they are highly
improbable. The recommended dose by consensus, 2,000 IU/day
for adults, is 1/20th the amount that must be taken for many
months to risk toxicity (28, 88, 91, 92). The evidence strongly
suggests that vitamin D deficiency is an easily modifiable risk
factor and correcting it is potentially life-saving. Suppressing this

evidence out of fear that the public might believe supplements
will make them “immune” to COVID-19 is not only elitist,
but it is inconsistent with existing public policy approaches.
Many mitigation strategies are publicized. None are seen as
conferring immunity.
This succinct but comprehensive review of the evidence found
that despite almost complete absence of official government
guidelines favoring vitamin D supplements to potentially
decrease COVID-19 risk and severity, support among clinicians
and other researchers for correcting and preventing vitamin D
deficiency with modest daily vitamin D supplementation during
the COVID-19 pandemic is very strong, worldwide. The evidence
supports recommending 2,000 IU (50 mcg) vitamin D daily for
at-risk teens and adults, which is well within safe limits andmight
dramatically reduce COVID-19 fatalities.”

The Big C, Yes Cancer

One of the most exciting discoveries in the past 30 years was a simple supplement derived from broccoli sprouts. There are countless peer reviewed medical schools studies regarding the simple ingredient that is concentrated in the growing sprouts, vs the broccoli. The sprout has a particular ingredient that has proven benefits in blocking many types of cancer both in animals and in humans. The particular ingredient or class of compounds are called sulforafanes. “In 1992 Johns Hopkins scientists found a new and highly concentrated source of sulforaphane, that helps mobilize the body’s natural cancer-fighting resources and reduces the risk of developing cancer, Sep 19, 1997″ To be clear only a drug can cure a disease.

There are over 2200 articles on Pubmed.gov ( the National Institute of Health website). NIH or PubMed publishes research from medical schools from all over the world. All of the research here is peer reviewed research published in medical journals which you can read. I was inspired to write this after speaking to one of the leading legal minds in this country who has actually written many of our laws. Ironically, although technical, its not as bad as reading legal documents. Its not that complicated. Most of the studies state the intention, then there are pages of statistics and a conclusion. Rarely do we see such a large body of evidence all supporting the reduction of all kinds of cancer. Again I have to repeat my caveat from other posts. THE LAST THING I WANT YOU TO DO IS FOREGO SEEING YOUR Doctor, or seeking conventional care. Almost every cancer is curable if caught early enough. It can be deadly to ignore the options of conventional care. Sometimes the window for conventional care is extremely small. Certain cancers grow to advanced stages that are untreatable in a matter of months. If you healthy there are a lot of supplements besides vitamin C that you can take now to reduce your risk of ever having to make the life and death decision about a disease as deadly as cancer in the future. Another caveat, you can only take most of these vitamins and supplements now, while you are healthy. Dont think for a minute that if you get sick thats when you will take them. Because the situation is exactly the opposite. Many vitamins enhance your body’s ability to “flush” your liver. So while your body is healthy eliminating the few cells that might be “errant” in your system and making your immune system’s job easier, all is great and you are helping your body do its job. However if you get sick and need to take a life saving drug, you absolutely can not take any supplements. The same process that would be eliminating toxins and “bad cells” would be flushing the life saving drug out of your body so it would not be able to help you. So sorry to be repetitive but we are talking life and death. Seek the advice and opinion of your doctor. If you really want to go “au natural” find a DOCTOR who is “complementary” or “alternative” or “integrative”. That would be a medical doctor or MD who know when you can still use vitamins or supplements for your care. You can not know when or what you can use if you are sick. A complementary doctor might give you a schedule when you can take certain vitamins or supplements that doesnt interfere with your conventional care. Sorry this is such a long post but it is vital that you understand when you can take advanatage of all the wonderful supplements or ‘Nutraceuticals” that are available to you. PS a nutraceutical is a nutrient that is as powerful as a pharmaceutical. Ready for you first test drive ? Read all about sulforaphanes here at pubmed. Sulforafanes. Once again to be repetitive only a drug can cure a disease. More on that in the next post

How to Choose a Cosmetic Doctor

I really feel sorry for someone trying to choose a provider of cosmetic services.  Each practice claims to have the best technology.   There are ways to separate the BS from the long time practitioners.  Logically start by eliminating practices who have not been around for at least 5 or 10 years.   Do you really want someone who just did a weekend or one day course on botox injecting ?  There are hundreds of muscles and tendons in your face.   Almost every doctor has added cosmetic services in the past few years.   Some buy one machine and think that makes them a cosmetic practice.  Many never even trained in that area. You have podiatrists, gynecologists, even your dentist offering fillers and Botox.  And amazingly I hear patients say I really trust my gynecologist.  Great when it comes to your vagina she has probably studied it for years, but couldnt find the attachment of the muscle to inject botox into if you gave him or her a roadmap let alone have the finesse that only years of experience will give one to know exactly how much to inject, where to inject, how much to dilute it etc.  Better yet find a surgeon. Or when it comes to Botox find an opthamologist An eye surgeon who not only knows exactly where every muscle around your eyes are located but has also operated on them and even tightened some of those muscles.  Assuming you dont want a droopy eye lid.  Even the most common provider,  Dermatologists are trained to recognize every disease that can possibly affect the skin but had no training for something like injecting botox and probably never reconstructed eye sockets etc.  They learn on the job,  so they fall into the category of people who have more than 10 years of experience.  I may be a little prejudiced but Dr Lisa  has reconstructed head and necks, so she truly understands the muscles in the face as well as the  different devices like radio frequency or ultrasound, and how it will affect the layers of collagen or fat whether its on your face or body.  Also anyone who has been offering cosmetic services for a decade has found multiple technologies that excel for different conditions.  Again using ourselves as an example Precision Aesthetics we have Acoustic Wave therapy for cellulite,  Exilis for non surgical fat reduction and Carboxytherapy for stretchmarks and Thermage for loose skin.

IMG_3573I’ll talk a little more about technologies we dont offer and why we chose to pass on them and why you might want to avoid them too

Coolsculpting Just Say No

Since I wrote that post I have spoken to 2 dozen potential new patients.  I like to know what they have read and think about all the machines.  Almost all of them said Coolsculpting made no sense since it didnt address loose skin, or took too long ( 2 to 3 treatments with 2 months between each treatment) Some only had loose skin and a few said they did it and got no results.  So thats what I am hearing.  PS Dr Lisa said absolutely NO to coolsculpting.  She doesnt care if it would bring in a million a year, the risk of damaging skin (requiring surgical intervention) or damaging nerves or organs is unacceptable.  Stick with the Thermage and Exilis for best results for loose skin and fat reduction.

Best non surgical skin Tightening Thermage

The very first device for enhancing your skin was thermage. It came on to the market over 12 years ago.  Thermage‘s safety record is unparalleled with over 1,000,000 treatments.

Thermage helps reduce the visible signs of aging on your skin. To look younger and get real results.  Its not a drastic change nor is there down time.

  • A single treatment that delivers results
  • Non-invasive and clinically proven to be safe
  • Minimal downtime, so it’s easy to fit into your routine
  • Real change you just can’t get from lotions and creams
  • Targeted, effective treatment that can help address the signs of aging on many areas of the body

Precision Aesthetics is New York’s only 8 time Pinnacle and Black Diamond award winner.

But dont take my word for it. Go to Thermage corporate website and you can search for doctors there.  There are over 97 providers in NY. But you really need to be careful because today there are Chinese companies selling bootleg consumables that might compromise your treatment or worse yet give you a burn. With these types of treatments experience is everything, go with someone with at least 7 years experience.
