Exercise HIIT me up for 30 Seconds? I am in :)

I cant believe this one. So I am out walking feeling guilty for only walking 30 minutes but the hour and one half YouTube I am listening to is going into great detail about HIIT. High intensity interval training. As I promised I am not going to bore you. I listened to the almost 2 hour YouTube so you dont have to.

Its just not that complicated. Exercise for 20 to 30 seconds, until you are winded. Then recover as long as you need. You do this for a mere total of 15 minutes.

Thats it you are done, and can read the next post. OK a little bit more. According to the research. That will literally mobilize fat and even have your metabolism elevated for 2 hours after you are done. And it helps release growth hormone. Another benefit they claimed was increasing circulation to your 25,000 miles of capillaries? Sounds like a lot. Lets just say it increases circulation and improves your skin. And they even said pretty much any age. They had an 80 year old who needed 15 minutes to recover from a seven second max effort that got her winded. For you it will probably be 20 to 30 seconds HIIT followed by 90 seconds recovery.

So of course get a physical before you embark on anything. Dont kill yourself. But I am so excited. I went from running 5 miles a day so I got my work out done in 40 minutes to recently walking but I needed 1 hour and 40 minutes for 5 miles, boring. Well not really because I learn a lot listening while I am walking.

But what an irony that while I started walking today I heard this. I am not sure what I am leaving out that is important, LOL. Feel free to read and research if you want to learn more. I think she also said when we dont go till we are “winded” we are losing lung capacity. I also heard a lot of crazy numbers like losing, I forgot exactly now, but 30 or 40% of your lung capacity by the age of 50?

But again if you want to listen to a one hour lecture you came to the wrong place. I am all about being lazy, taking shortcuts, which we learned, experts call “Hacks” LOL. So maybe I should rename my blog Hack your Life. Hmmm not a bad idea.

I am also going to dust off my rebounder from the basement, because why stress my joints?

Sorry I got nothing else that I remember that is relevant. Its just not that complicated. I think people make their blogs and YouTube long to give you 1000 reasons why you should do something to motivate you or maybe its just so more commercials play to make more money . Who cares? Just Do It.

If you can get a better workout, improve your aerobic capacity and exercise your heart, break down fat, have an increased metabolism for hours after you are done, release growth hormone and even endorphins and dopamine by a mere 20 to 30 second maximal effort a half a dozen times, sign me up. PS more GABA and Glutamate. These are some of my favorite “drugs” I am all about a natural high. Might have to make that tag for categories. These guys deserve a link for a concise benefit list. excellent attribution to other studies and the photo.

And they are saying its more effective than my hour and a half walk and definitely better than my run in terms of not hurting you. And there was an added talk about running on your toes, which started the bare foot running craze. You can shorten that into run on grass adjacent to sidewalk. Wear thinner soles so your arch and toes can flex.

But again too much information even by me. Just try it. I will, and I will report back. Heck I could even climb the stairs in my house barefoot as you could, if you live in a two story house.

OK The End

Regarding climbing stairs. I remember when my mother was in her 80’s and I used to visit her she would say I climbed the stairs 20 times today. She was a smart lady, she intuitively knew how to stay fit her whole life. Her mind and body was perfect till the mid nineties. She managed that by avoiding doctors. Her 300 cholesterol was not a problem. She wasnt on any medication. We couldnt even get her to take a tylenol when she had hurt her shoulder.

She did get breast cancer in her 90’s. But, she was treated with a series of Xrays on her chest when she was a child for Tuberculosis. Doctors have had a history of mistakes, or shall we be kind and say evolving knowledge? That was the treatment.

Many cancer doctors say that even a severe sunburn in youth can cause a cancer 70 years later. So there is that. Also she refused to treat the cancer. I still wonder. My guess is it could have gone either way. If they cut it out or treated it early? Maybe, who knows. I can say the home health care doctor said he would be surprised if she survived 6 months. Six years later no issues. But it did keep growing and breaking through the skin, they finally convinced us to allow her to do a tiny little innocent chemo pill. They said the risk was infection. She was gone in six months. You can decide what killed her. No comment from me.

Off topic but I was filling space. Just kidding the whole stairs thing reminded me of my mom. Sorry for the segue. I hope you will try HIIT. I think it will be a miracle if for a mere 20 to 30 seconds 6 times a day we can achieve all of those benefits. OK I’ll be redundant.

Breaking down fat, increasing metabolism for hours afterwards, releasing growth hormone, and all the happy hormones like dopamine, and endorphins. It all sounds too good to be true.

Anyway off to climb some stairs and get out the rebounder too. I’ll keep track of my progress and my pulse to see if I do progress in lowering my blood pressure from normal to super healthy again. I used to be 50 over 80 when I ran all the time. They were always worried that it was too low until they heard that I ran. Today I am a “normal” 120/80 or 110/70 I will report back how long it takes to improve that.
