What about Positive Thinking?

Heck I dont know what to say. I started there. I read all of Norman Vincent Peale’s books in the 80’s I had to. My 20 something brain had a lifetime of the worst negative thoughts and ideas.

But lets assume the majority of people reading this are adults and just ruminating. Isnt positive thinking kind of like talking to yourself positively? For a small minority I imagine if you say over and over again, I want to be healthy or wealthy eventually your subconscious will say “Ok then what should we do?” So perhaps it is a path. And maybe it is a tool that should be part of your arsenal.

I think the big problem is we are all different. And if you do not have the capacity for silence or being creative, its probably better to repeat your positive thinking in a kind of mantra vs silly self talk or the 80,000 negative thoughts you had yesterday.

I remember when I was in my mid 20’s running 5 miles a day I would repeat I want to be healthy and wealthy or something like that as a rhythm while I jogged. But in retrospect I dont think it did anything. The real magic happened with Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz. It was movies of your mind. PS I said listening to others was like watching a movie. Maybe watching the movies in your mind like coming attractions. Wow! where did that come from. I think its a great idea.

I have a few posts and even one I wrote today about visualizing. We all do it and truly is extremely powerful. It is more powerful than willpower and we do it every day. Read my post on how to visualize. Why is it a part of so many religions? And by the way I am discounting the supernatural nature of visualizing.

I am merely talking about the practical nature of it. For example if your wife had visualized how the couch would look on the opposite wall 30 feet on the other side of the room vs telling you to move it and lets see how it looks when it gets there you would both be happier and you wouldnt have had to move it back, and get divorced ( just kidding) All she had to do was imagine how empty the wall she removed it from would look, Just sayin.

Maybe I articulated it incorrectly. Positive thinking is probably the starting point of positive visualization. If you think of all the wonderful positive things that could happen then you can think about all of the paths to get you there.

So it will get a small thumbs up from this judge. It is better to think positive than negative. It is better to visualize, and the ultimate goal would be to feel your future every day so it becomes part of every decision.

People often will fulfill your expectations. So there is a danger of thinking negatively. Its kinda like saying “you wouldnt want to do this would you?” the exact opposite of “lets do this its going to be great” and or “lets do this cant you just imagine how great its going to feel to do this?”

But now we are getting into NLP is it visual auditory or kinesthetic. At least approach your self talk or positive talk from that angle. That alone will multiply your results. And for some it might be exponential. ie so that exact same sentence “lets do this cant you just SEE how great its going to be” vs “lets do this doesnt it “SOUND” great?” vs “lets do this, imagine how great its going to FEEL”.

Some people are more one way or the other and it is worth noting. But as I said previously nothing is as great as the present of presence. Start with that gift in all of your encounters in all of your relationships. Listen first. You have no idea what the other person is going through at this moment.

PS what about presence for you? Now I dont mean to listen to the BS self talk. The clue to differentiating the self talk from real ideas and creative thinking is easy, the first clue is it a thought you have had before. Literally one of the 50,000 you had yesterday? Secondly your mind should be quiet not repeating anything negative, nothing from the past no regrets, no worries about the future. Now you are ready to hear what your real mind can create.

Now some of the “masters” out there will call it your subconscious or your superconscious or even the supernatural or God. I dont care what you call it. It will be different and it will be in a different voice from a different place. It will be partially knowing and partially creating. Kinda of like me writing this. It just flows and creates and creates a little more. PS I just thought of “coming attractions for you” hmmm. Where did that come from?

And yes in your alone time banish all negative talk replace it with positive talk or positive thinking or positive imagining. And or in silence find your own creation.
