Rumination is to the mind as a chew toy to a dog.
What passes for thinking is NOT. Its simply reacting and ruminating or complaining and or mulling the same 50,000 thoughts as yesterday.
I propose a different vocabulary. Real “thinking” is ideating. I propose you conduct your life by being creative (real thinking), not doing your normal circle jerk thinking. If you are not being creative, stop talking to yourself, stay silent listen to someone else, or live in the flow.
That is literally how you want to live your life. I know that is a tall order. That would be living a very contemplative meditative life, where every moment you are in the moment with your body and your mind fully present. It would be living like a Buddha for lack of a better way of describing it. But imagine how joyful it would be to live the majority of your life in the Flow. Not just during orgasm or after running 5 miles.
I am proposing living a contemplative life, where the majority of your time you are in the moment present, not “thinking” In other words eating your food, not watching TV. Taking a shower noticing the feel and touch of the water ( and the soap, if you use any) Ok I was trying to interject some humor.
But seriously how about trying to be “in” as much of your life as possible vs not even being present in your life 99% of the time because that dog chew toy you call a brain is merely getting chewed on vs utilizing the tremendous creative power of the brain to create, to envision and or to experience or to give the gift of presence to another human being. PS you might just learn something if you have the ability to listen. There are a lot of great minds who have generously given us millions of life changing thoughts, ideas and ways to live a more meaningful, happy and fulfilling life.
