Eat less move more. The End
Seriously Why do we have thousands of books on weight loss?
My four word book should be a best seller. Ok I should give some advice. Start with your doctor. If you have a hormonal problem you are fighting a losing battle. Ideally an endocrinologist if your doctor is not properly equipped. I even know some of the right blood tests and or questions to ask. How is your thyroid, your growth hormone, your testosterone, (women and men both have testosterone) A CBC is in order. Is your liver, kidneys functioning properly?
How is your brain chemistry? You can actually test your dopamine , your serotonin, norepinephrine, adrenaline, cortisol, to name a few off the top of my head. There are some that help you wake up and others that help you sleep. And if the wrong ones are firing at the wrong time, good luck. PS My good friend Oz Garcia shared one of his multimillion dollar clients who was getting up at 5am do start her day with an hour of aerobics, merely needed to sleep more to lose weight. Talk about paradoxical.
I wrote about hormones in my health section.
Running is like magic. One mile 8 minutes 150 calories. Now that I am older, walking has similar effects only it takes longer. Funny I tried to google how many calories for walking and the results kept telling me about running. Maybe its a conspiracy by the runners club. But seriously its around 150 calories whether you run or walk and thats great news. So in one hour you can still burn around 450 calories walking. Most people walk a mile in around 20 minutes, or 3 miles an hour
But today you can listen to podcasts make your phone calls whatever, while you are walking. I actually walk whenever I talk. Its a subconscious urge. I searched it online. The results I found make sense. It said that we are animals and are used to receiving visual cues from another animal or human when we are communicating. So when we are talking on the phone and not seeing the other person and getting that we feel the urgency to move. I walk 3 miles indoors on an one hour phone call and burn 450 calories. Talk about useful multitasking.
If you are lucky enough to feel that. urge dont resist it!!! I remember even back to the days before portable phones, For you millennials, phones used to be attached by wires, period. So I bought a long 50 foot cord so I could walk around my apartment while I talked. I had no idea why I had that urge. Then came portable phones. That was phones that were still attached by wires to telephone poles to the final destination but the handset communicated with the base without a cord. But it was still POTS ( plain old phone system) but the phone was communicating with the base wirelessly. Then came cell phones the only thing the whole world knows today.
Just move. And fall in love with something, anything healthy. I love salads. I always fill up with salad no matter what else I am eating. DRINK water. It will fill you up. What about apples? Find something you love to eat that is not cookies.
And DONT AVOID fats. You will never feel full on carbs. You will always be hungry and probably bitchy too. Ok lets start today with a more inclusive word. You will feel bitchy or bastardly hungry. I guess bastardly is not a word. I officially designate “bastardly” as a word. You read it here first. It is a man acting nasty. You all can give me acronyms for the other 10 pronouns as well as coming up with a word that designates men as capable of getting “hangry” Now I know thats a word . I experience it every day. Its a combination of hungry and angry.
Try two glasses of water before every meal. You will not even be able to eat. You will feel full. I also used to purposely ruin my appetite by starting with my dessert. Ok thats not really great advice. But you can eat something prior to a meal. If your satiety mechanism, or the one where your brain tells you that you are full takes 20 minutes, eat slowly or eat something with fat and protein before your meal. Try a protein bar. You might not even feel hungry. And dont eat mindlessly
We take mindlessly to another level. Watching TV while you eat, you can easily shovel food into your pie hole. Ideally you would just eat and savor every bite and not do anything else. OK I know most of you arent going to do that but seriously think about what you are doing. If you are watching something that make you anxious, duh, news. Of course you will eat mindlessly and eat more. Ideally eat mindfully. Ok if you cant do that eat and converse. If you must watch something at least watch something pleasant and mindless, and try to focus on your food and not the TV
What if we had the mindfulness of WHAT we are eating? If you could imagine the glop or Starbucks (ok I will never get endorsed by Starbucks) But imagine that goop or glop or caramel machiatto whatever the F going into your stomach spiking your blood sugar releasing insulin, stressing your pancreas. The insulin getting released and your body storing fat, YUCK!!
I remember reading Robert Schuller saying he imagined the fats coursing through his veins and clogging his heart. That was it he was done. My dad worked in a butcher shop and saw the garbage that went into a hot dog or sausage. That was it for him he never ate one in his life. He didnt have to imagine he saw it first hand
The point is IMAGINATION is stronger than will power. If you have a strong picture in your mind of what you want to look like, you are done my friend.
NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS LOOKING AND FEELING GOOD FEELS!!!!!
Its just a matter of which picture is stronger in your mind. If the picture of you in a bathing suit looking buff or you looking in the mirror and smiling and feeling proud of yourself is stronger than the imagination of how something tastes, you are done. You will easily accomplish your goal without ANY will power. You merely have to have the presence of mind to imagine how great you are going to look and feel. PS stop yourself when you start imagining some unhealthy food.
I think I will experiment with imagining that my favorite ice creams etc taste like poop. If I am on to something I will write the diet book to end all diet books. Has anyone created that or wrote that? So far I am merely proposing our imagination of how we want to look and feel is far greater than we imagine the food or non food to taste Again its worth repeating
NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS LOOKING AND FEELING GOOD FEELS!!!!!
I wanted to just write eat less and move more but I had to share what I know. But I am not going to bore you with a whole book. All books are mostly fluff. I will never forget when I read the 80/20 rule. It truly does apply to everything in the world companies, customers your relationships. And some of us need to see 1000 examples before we “get it” But if you dont need 1000 examples and you are a fast learner, there really isnt much else to learn. Eat healthy fats and healthy protein, But seriously there are no books telling you to eat starch and sugar.
So you know what to eat and what to avoid. Thats not the problem. Its motivation. Use your imagination. You do it anyway. How the hell do you think you got fat? You imagined how good some glop is going to taste. And I am not going to deny you have a sweet tooth and that you also crave fats. I wrote about it. You are hard wired to crave sweets and avoid bitter poisons or your ancestors would have died and you wouldnt be reading this. You are hard wired to crave and store fat or your ancestors would have died. In fact you are hard wired to rest in between the hunting. Even any agriculture or farming is only 10,000 years old. So you are wired for fats sweets and being lazy.
So you need to rewire your brain to negotiate in todays world where every evil company is preying on your make up your hard wiring. They get rich while you get fat and sick.
I am assuming you dont want that for your life, or you would be sipping a caramel machiatto while watching real housewives or the cooking channel. Boy the list of who is never going to sponsor me is going to grow by leaps and bounds. Oh well have a happy and healthy day.
Nothing beats going to sleep at night knowing that you did everything you said you would, ate healthy and exercised and kept your word to yourself.
