What items do you need for a home gym workout routine, and how much will it cost me?

Zero. I saw my best results when I started doing pushups. I did not have those muscles at all. I could barely do one. Now I reached 50 but I have backed off a bit. I do minimum 20 now. But I can see a huge difference in my chest shoulders and back. Obviously you can exercise any muscle you want. Google search isometric exercises. Or you can just be a jerk like me and everyone else and buy expensive equipment or even a treadmill. They work really well as a place to store boxes and junk. Seriously I just searched what percentage of people use their treadmills and saw a figure that Americans spend $397 MILLION ANNUALLY on unused gym memberships. WOW ! Talk about hitting lotto. So if you want to win the grand prize in lotto dont buy anything. If I remember correctly, actually just searched it. Charles Atlas isometric. Assuming you are not looking to get bigger than Mr America, all you need is your own body weight. Spend your energy and time exercising not shopping for equipment. Actually you just got me motivated to try some isometric exercises for other body parts. So thanks for the question.

FYI those new non slip hangers with felt on them you see everywhere are less than $1 each so you might want to save a few thousand dollars and buy a coat hanger vs a treadmill to hang your clothes. And a coat hanger takes up less room.
